Who we are
Who we are
The Association
The Support Association Children's Aid and St. Thomas Hospital in Cameroon e.V. was founded in the year 2000. It supports education as well as caring for sick people and those in need of help in Cameroon.
Our association is recognized as a non-profit organization; it has branches in Germany and France.
Moreover, we are happy that on a local level we only employ natives. Nevertheless we always warmly welcome specialists from abroad who want to use their skills to support our work in Cameroon.
Conversely, it is important to us that our African employees have the opportunity to get an impression of our vocational training in Europe through guest stays.
All European staff work on a voluntary basis, with no expense allowance. There are no administrative costs.

Cameroon
VARIED CAMEROON
Cameroon lies at the intersection of West and Central Africa. Due to its north-south extension, it cuts through the most diverse vegetation and climate zones: from the rainy coastal lowlands with huge tropical rainforests, to the central plateau and the more desert-like dry zones of the north.
Health
Diseases such as polio, hepatitis, malaria and worm infections can be transmitted via contaminated water. Especially amongst children and infants, the mortality rate among children is alarmingly high. Additionally HIV is spreading at an alarming rate, resulting in dramatically increasing tuberculosis rates.
Education
In West Africa, a good education and vocational training is often an unaffordable luxury. Public schools are repeatedly closed due to stagnating salary payments. The costs for a private institution have to be raised independently. Many families cannot afford this.
Mvam-Zamba
In the middle of the rainforest, about 70 km south of the capital Yaoundé, lies the village Mvam-Zamba. The local people live from agriculture and hunting. We started our activities by building a well.
This has considerably improved the state of health of the village.
Due to the construction of the wells, the infection rate of children with hepatitis (jaundice) and parasites (f.e. worms!) has decreased considerably.
Nsimalen/ Yaoundé
Due to its close proximity to the international airport, Nsimalen has a very good infrastructure. We were able to inaugurate our vocational school here in 2013. Followed in 2016, in the immediate vicinity, by the opening of the St. Thomas Hospital.
Ebolowa
Since 2016, our coordinator in Cameroon, Dr Philippe Mbarga, has been the Bishop of Ebolowa, which is located in the south of the country. Thus, naturally, our activities have also expanded into his new area of activity.
